St. George is a major educational center in Washington County. Additionally, the St. George Art Festival is a major event that attracts hundreds of artists in a vivid environment of booths and busy streets full of art diverse art displays. Additionally, there are several historical sites in St. George including Brigham Young's Winter Home and Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum, with guided tours available around the city, especially the downtown area.

St. George is home to or within close proximity to churches of multiple congregations, most notably of over a dozen churches belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS.) The St. George Utah Temple is the first temple completed in Utah by the LDS Beginning in 1871 and dedicated in 1877, the striking white monument was finished before the more famous Salt Lake Temple. The St. George temple is not open to visitors, but a free tour is available next door at the visitors' center.

The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site is home to exceptionally well-preserved dinosaur tracks, some displaying skin impressions. These tracks, along with hundreds of fossil fish, plants, rare dinosaur remains, invertebrates traces and important sedimentary structures, show evidence that this site was produced along the western edge of a large, Early Jurassic (age between 195-198 million years ago) freshwater lake named Lake Dixie. Other notable discoveries that make the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site unique include the largest and best preserved collection of dinosaur swim tracks, a rare sitting impression of a large meat-eating dinosaur, and the unusual association of tracks, traces and real bones found within close proximity to each other.

St. George has plenty of recreational areas, programs and facilities with over a dozen city parks. Additionally, St. George is known to have an array of golf opportunities in world class golf courses at Bloomington Country Club, Dixie Red Hills Golf Course, Entrada At Snow Canyon, The Ledges of St George Golf Club, St George Golf Club, Southgate Golf Club, Sunbrook Golf Club, Sunriver Golf Club. These golf clubs offer extra accommodations such as swimming, tennis, pro shops, clubhouses, and driving ranges, all in a scenic environment. Additional notable recreational facilities in St. George include Sand Hollow Aquatic Center, Canyons Complex which includes 38 acres with seven baseball fields, and several other softball complexes.

The City of St. George Airport includes general aviation and scheduled commercial flights. Currently, there are plans to redevelop and expand the airport. St. George hosts the headquarters of SkyWest Airlines, which flies as United Express on behalf of United Airlines, and as Delta Connection on behalf of Delta Air Lines.

St. George has multiple media operations, including newspapers The Spectrum, which is owned by Gannett, and is the local, daily newspaper, Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret Morning News, and Las Vegas Review-Journal / Las Vegas Sun.
